According to different studies, a person will know whether they like you or not within the first 1-12 minutes of meeting you or talking to you. That is not much time to make a good first impression and create chemistry. However, you can easily capitalize on these first few minutes and make the most of them by following a few simple tips.

On the phone:

Focus the conversation in the first few minutes and keep it going. It is a good idea to write down some questions beforehand to avoid dead air and keep the other person engaged. Really focus in on what the other person is saying, and make sure you give them enough time to talk. However, you might focus so much on being a great phone partner that you could forget to evaluate whether or not you’re into the person, so don’t forget about that either!

In person:

In person, a smile is truly the way to win someone over, with a little eye contact thrown in, paired with your conversational tactics from the phone. People respond well to smiles and eye contact because it shows that you’re positive, engaged and interested in what they have to say. It will help you make the most of these 1-12 minutes, which could pass quite quickly!

Whether you’re chatting on the phone for the first time or meeting your date who you’ve met on a local chat line in person, there are some things you can do to make a great first impression, which could lead to a fun fling or even a great relationship. They say that first impressions are everything, and in dating that is really so. Don’t let the opportunity to leave your mark on someone pass you by!
